2002 Subaru Forester At temp light on

My forester, has been to the shop a few different ones. Same problem, check engine light comes on followed by AT temp hot loght on. Then out of nowhere big thump sound like its slamiing into a gear.
Brought it to Subaru dealer. They changed sensors replaced fluid. Problem back next week. Brought to a transmission shop. They said too much fluid. Problem back next week. I was thinking if you guys had any idea I could forward info to next repair guys.

Hi Marjorie,

Get a scan done and come back with the error code and we will see what we can come up with.

The AT temp light could be due to overheating of the fluids and the check engine light could give us some light.
