When I turn my key to start engine, all dash lights work but car will not fire and the starter or solenoid stays going. I shut off the car and pull keys but they continue to run and make starter extremely hot until I pull the battery terminal wires. I did find a wire that comes from a red and black plug on top of starter that was not bolted down anywhere. Do not know where it goes. Please help.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros. Com.

Please upload a picture of the plug that you found and the color wires attached to it. I need to know if they are black/white or black/yellow. Also, there are two wires that go to the starter. One comes directly from the battery. It is larger. There should also be a smaller wire going to the starter. Both attach to the solenoid on the starter at different places. Make sure nothing is crossing the two locations where the wires should be attached. If both wires are attached where they should be, it sounds like something has shorted either in the solenoid, the starter relay is bad, or there is a short to power to the smaller wire. I attached a picture of the wiring to the starter. I do not know how familiar you are with reading schematics, but thought I would add it.

Let me know.

Joe
