Steering wheel has about a half inch play without the tires moving and you can hear a squeak coming form the rack. The steering has been stiffer than normal lately too, power steering fluid is full I just refilled it. Is it the rack and pinion or the power steering? Pump has not been replaced and truck has 95,000 miles.

Have pump checked for pressure, but may be a rack needs to be replaced.

I think it is the rack.

Sounds more like a clunk than a squeak, but if rest of front end is okay then I would say it is the rack, but have it checked they will tell you and if they do not fix it they normally do not charge for it. It will have to be aligned anyhow after replacement.
