For awhile no my car smells hot but the temp gauge reads normal. Recently I have been told that I may be having transmission problems, it has never slipped or not went into gear sometime it does feel like it doesn't have the power it use to. I'm s single lady and really do not want a car payment, so if this is the transmission would it be worth replacing versus buying another car. Body wise it is in excellent shape, garage kept, interior is excellent, and as far as I no not any major mechanical problems.

Have a trans guy look at this before you do anything a rebuild on the trans can be anywhere fro 1500-1800 but it could be something else. If the fluid is dark brown then there may be a problem

Had a friend look at it who use to work at ford as a mechanic. He is the one who suggested possible transmission problem. He dropped the pan and cleaned it, new filter and fluid. He did say my old fluid was pretty nasty-don't think it had ever been changed. Said this was a 50/50 chance of fixing it. He here's a here's a noise that he described to me as being like a deep base in music, I do not here this, but then not sure I would.

If the fluid was "nasty" as you say like a dark brown the trans will give you problems in the future maybe just keep an eye on it and if worse comes to worst you can always get it rebuilt, cheaper than a new car.
