Hello,

I've noticed that the headlights are not ON when they are turned ON. Bulbs are in perfect condition. But the other electrical accessories like indicators, break lights, fan, ac, interior lights are working. During running condition (turn ignition ON and start the engine) the headlights are still not ON.

Only then I suspected the car battery and found distilled water was almost zero in both the channels. My car runs 12V Exide battery. It has been never replaced till today.

After examination the following are the details:

1. (Engine off): battery voltage is around 5-6v
2. (Engine on): battery voltage is around 6-7v
3. (Enigne ON, headlight knob turned ON): Battery voltage drops to 2-3v.

Few advice me to run the car for about 50kms and see the results and it may turn out to be normal as it was earlier.

I feel after refiling the distilled water in the battery, and after running for about 30km or more, the battery would get charged sufficiently and it would behave normally making headlights ON.

Please advice what I should do?

Hi there,

These voltages are way to low, you will have to get the battery fully charged (a drive will only give you a partial surface charge) then get the battery load tested, this is the only way to test a battery for condition.
