I HAVE HAD WHITE GUNK IN MY OIL CAP FOR A WHILE AND NOW JUST STARTED ON MY DIP STICK THERE IS A SLIGHT SMELL OF PETROL IN THE GUNK

When water and oil are mixed, it causes the milky white gunk you are seeing. There is a possibility the coolant is getting into the oil. A cooling system pressure test will be required to determine the source. It is also possible there is some engine damage.
