After installing a shifter cable transmission will not shift out of park

I installed a cable shifter on my car it is column shift and it will not shift out of park.

Why did you replace the cable? Did you have this issue prior to replacing the cable?

The cable got on the battery and got on fire melted the cable so I had to replace it. Melted all the way to brake pedal.

Not bad, just melted installation around the cable.

There is more damage than that if it will not come out of park.

With the new cable installed, does the shifter move freely?
