Transmission problem
1997 Saturn SL2 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My transmission has been slipping a lot. Finally car getting stuck at 20mph, while working way too hard (3000rpm). Fluid was practically empty. I noticed tranny fluid leaking from around tranny filter. Is the tranny filter a possible cure all to my issue? Also radiator is done for. Do you think I could replace tranny filter and radiator and be good to go?

There is no cure all for ur case. It is possible the filter is loose and leaking or the gasket of the filter is torn and leaking. How many quarts were u low on transmission fluid? If u need a radiator that won't help ur transmission. Let me know how many quarts u were low. Did u hear a whistling noise when u excellerated when ur fluid was low?Let me know.

I changed the filter, and that didn't fix it! Fluid was bone dry! When I filled it still slipped. Filled anti freeze and used plastic weld-all on the radiator crack, assisted in more of a delay in slippage. No transmission fluid leaks after replacement of filter. Ran a treatment that auto zone gave me through the transmission 2xs. I am questioning if this is a torque converter issue. I should be getting a code reader in the mail today, so that may help me out!

Thanks

Melissa

You shouldn't have put that transmission treatment in your transmission they usually do more harm then good in those transmission's from what I have seen. If your fluid went bone dry your torque converter is the least of your worries. If your transmission was shifting fine before the leak and no it slip's you probably have some burnt clutch's. But we will wait and see what code's you have. Let me know what you find.
