My check engine light came on yesterday morning. I never comes on so I was concerned. I took it to the local auto parts store and after the car was put on a monitor I was told that the EGR valve is stuck open. Is this something that could possibly be repaired just by cleaning the valve? If so how do I go about cleaning it?

Rarely does cleaning an EGR valve fix it. Normally the carbon build up destroys the valve and the valve will need replaced. However, during replacement you need to be certain to clean the passageway of the EGR valve so that the carbon will not build up on the new valve quickly.
