Engine Performance problem
1997 Saturn SL1 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Having the same problem which was listed under 1997 Saturn.
Service Engine Soon message - Changed plugs, wires, air filter and PVC valve. Disconnected battery - reconnected battery. Started engine - Service Engine Soon message out. When starting vehice rpm goes to 2000 - then drops to 1000 - place in gear and engine goes to 1500 and stays there - have to hold brake securely when coming to a stop still in gear - engine slowly drops to 900 rpm -then when leaving stop and applying slight pressure on excelerator - engine goes to 1500 again - then will eventully drop to 1000. The engine rpm working correctly before I changed the parts. Plugs were gapped at.040

Firstly, you'll need to have the ECM scanned to find out what's triggering the service engine light. We will need to know what codes are stored and their descriptions. I would check all sensor connections anywheres near the tune up area. The stored code read out should help steer you in the right direction. Hope this helps. Let us know what you find.
