My Saturn had it "check engine" light on and is idling very fast (2500rpm). After mechanic did tune up, said this problem required replacing the current intake manifold gasket to make it run right. Is this correct? What else could it be? Or will the problem be solved by simply replacing the fuel filter? Thanks for your advice.

What codes do u have?Go to a auto parts store and have ur codes read. That will help to figure out what's going on.I doubt ur intake manifold gasket is leaking the 2000 and up sl1 usually leak from the gasket.I mean it's possible check ur S shaped hose that goes from ur intake manifold to ur pcv they get holes in them and cause a high idle.U can also get a can of carb spray and spray around any where u think there's a vaccum leak while the car is at idle if the idle goes up or stumbles or dies out u have a leak there. Let me know what u find.
