2001 Renault Megane Engine won't start when hot

Get a carbuerator cleaner and next time it refuses start do below -and tell me what happened.

Get a carb cleaner and spray into the carb or the throttle body on an EFI. Did it start and die? If not disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light.

Fuel pump and Injector/s checks out-start checking the ignition system-power to coil, coil/s itself,distributor pick-up,control module, Cam and Crankshaft sensors.

If both fuel and spark is present-check the valve and ignition timing, this will lead you to problems with compression and valves opening and closing at the wrong time

Intermittently (about once a week) I have a difficulty starting the engine. It tends to be after a long stop and go driving but also after normal driving when the engine is hot. A typical situation is that I cannot start the engine but after a while (10-20 min) the problem disappears and the engine starts easily. I never had a problem starting the engine in the morning. Under normal driving conditions the car runs great with excellent performance and gas mileage. My mechanic does not find any codes indicating a problem. Any clues will be appreciated.[/quote]

I am sorry but since posting my question the problem has never recurred so I obviously I haven’t done any tests

Problem solved!
Last time when the car did not start I checked as suggested and found that there was no spark. Searching for the problem I discovered a faulty connection on the crankshaft position sensor. After fixing it the problem was gone.
