does the cable feel like it has broken ?? .. if not have a friend push down and pull up on the bonnet near the catch mechanism whilst you pull the lever this should work ... if the cable has broken near the handle pull the cable with pliars .. if it is broken in the engine compartment you will need to remove the front grill ... this usually means breaking it ?
