2000 Renault Clio losing power & 'missing' in low gears

Hi, car is losing power & seems to be 'missing' in low gears, it will pick up then fade until I get it to a higher speed.
Someone told me I need to get a new Cam Belt fitted asap, but is it something else as well, like the points need cleaning or changing? I only noticed this problem after I came back from two weeks holiday and the car had been idle for that time.
p.S. I don't know if it's 4 cyl! It's a 16v Alize model.

does the MIL (little orange engine light) show on the dash display ? ... I would start by have the spark plugs and coils changed also adding a good fuel cleaner to the fuel tank to clean the injectors .. there are no "points" on your vehicle the engine is electronilcally controlled ... with 59.000 miles on the clock it is due for a timing belt change .. but this will not be the cause of the missing ...let me know if you have any more question ..
