I just bought a renualt clio 1.2 privately. I was MOT's 2 weeks before i bought it. 2 days after i got it i noticed a slight oil leak which stopped about 4 hours after i noticed it. However today the oil light came on and so i put 2 litres of oil in and the oil light went off briefly but the oil leak has turn from a small trickle to a flood. I cant see any kind of errosion. I'm wondering if it could be down to losening of something? Given that this leak seemed to have worsened in a matter of an hour or so. If so.. is this something i could repair myself? Given that this leak seemed to have worsened in a matter of an hour or so.

How much do you think it would cost to have this looked and fixed?

Thanks!

Fill engine with oil to full mark. Raise car, put on stands and use flashlight (engine running, in park) and inspect the engine for leaks.

Depending on where the leak is (rear main seal, for example) it could be very expensive.

If you cannot find leak, then there is a dye you can add to oil to isolate leak.

Look at front and rear main seals, valve cover, oil pressure sender, oil pan gasket, oil filter and oil drian plug.
