Please provide steps to access/remove the air filter box in order to replace air filter. Wish to instal a K&N filter instead of standard paper filter. Thanks.

Hi ImpallaSS,
Thanks for the information. Better than K&N Filter info. However, please help me with this. The filter is located on the left side of vehicle. Is the filter box accessed from the undercarriage and does the plastic undercarriage protection plate (closest to transmission) have to be unscrewed/removed to see the filter box? Thanks in advance. Hello -

Sorry - I haven't had the pleasure of working on a 2007 Porsche yet. . .. . .. . ..so I will advise as I see and from the manual and if that doesn't get us where we need to be I will contact another moderator that may provide more info if you wish.

This is the prep work below to the air cleaner housing cover.

PRELIMINARY WORK
Preliminary work for air cleaner element
1. Apply protective covers to vehicle and in passenger compartment (Cayman).
2. Remove engine compartment cover. Refer to 55 78 19 Removing and installing engine compartment lid - as of MY 2005 (Boxster, Boxster RHD, Boxster S, Boxster S RHD) . Refer to 55 78 19 Removing and installing engine compartment lid - as of MY 2005 (Cayman S, Cayman S RHD) .

The above refers us to the below

PRELIMINARY WORK
Preliminary work
Remove trim panel for convertible top rest. Refer to 70 08 19 Removing and installing trim panel for convertible top rest/engine compartment lid - as of MY 2005 (Cayman S, Cayman S RHD) .
REMOVING ENGINE COMPARTMENT LID

Fig. 117: Removing engine compartment lid

1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- and remove engine compartment lid -2- upwards. See Fig. 117.

https://www.2carpros.com/forum/automotive_pictures/248015_118_1.jpg

1. Position engine compartment lid -2- and tighten with fastening screws -1- . à †’ Tightening torque: 10 (7.5 ftlb.) Nm +/-20% . See Fig. 118.

If yours is a convertible then there appears to be some other info if you need it.

I would think by the pics this can all be accomplished from the top. However, like any task many times it is easier from the side or bottom. . ..even at times from the fender well with tire removed.

Also, I apologize in advance. . ..without seeing it I am unable to go by anything other than the pics . . .. . ..again, I can contact another moderator if we need to.

When you look at it. . .. . .do you feel from the top or better from the bottom?

Let me know if this helps.
