1999 Pontiac Sunfire Automatic 159000 miles

I have a 1999 pontiac sunfire and i have had it for about a year. Ever since i had it, it always took longer for the car to start so i always thought that i may need a new starter. And lately when i start my car the battery charge light will flash two times and then it will go away. But today when i was driving my car the battery charge light stayed on for about 20 seconds and then it will go away. It also will blink when i am driving it and when i will stop at the stop light it will come back on and stay on until i hit the gas pedal. Also i have noticed that my ABS light was on today also. So when my dad came home he was going to take me to get a new battery but he realized that all my lights would come on and none of them were dimmer then usual. What can be the problem?

hi, thanks for the donation. I'd have to check that the battery has a full charge. Make sure the connections are clean. The generic spec for a full charge is around 12.6 volts. With everything turned off, use a digital voltmeter across the battery post, note the reading. Take a second reading at the battery, engine running, the second reading should be higher than the first, if the charging system is working. You may need to test when problem is ongoing.

Also, check for troublecodes, some of the national brand autostores used to check codes for free, you can call and ask.
