When i start my car it makes a loud noise. then after its started it goes away. Im thinking it has something to do with the starter.

If it is a grinding noise, the starter may be staying engaged.

Can you hum a few bars?

I guess I'm showing my age...old joke.

Anyways, If the starter is staying engaged for a few extra seconds or is binding, it will damage the flywheel. It should be simple for a shop to identify once it's up in the air.

IF the starter is binding and it doesn't get repaired, the flywhel may get damaged and make $200 not seem so bad. Have a shop take a look, might be worth a few bucks to find out.
