I have a rattle around the rear shocks. Would they be bad or is there something else it would be?

It could be a few things. Broken coil spring, noisy shock, worn shock bushings, worn or broken stabilizer links bars or bushings, etc.

You should get under the vehicle and check all these items. Or even have someone bounce the car and see if it makes the noise, then try and source the faulty component
