2012 Pontiac Sunbird Repair Question

3000 rpm at startup
I have a 92 pontiac sunbird at 114000 miles and recently it has gotten cold. when i start the car it idles at 3000 rpm but when i put it into gear it goes back down to 1 and everything runs normally. could this be because of the cold or some other mechanical problem? i only drive it to and from work a few miles 5 days a week.

if it runs normal otherwise I think it's either the cold or a vacume leak can make it run alittle faster. Do you have any other problems...need more specifics if there are any. (I have no exsperiance with cold though...I live in so cal)
