Engine Mechanical problem
2001 Pontiac Montana 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive 122, 30 miles

The van was running fine and we made a brief stop. The keys were removed from the ignition. When we tried to start it again, it would not start. Nothing happened but the dash gauges began flickering and we could hear an "air noise" that coincided with the flickering. We walked to a service station and when we came back, the gauges did not even flicker. Note that the gauges initially flickered even when the keys were removed from the ignition. Thank you for your help.

Have you tried jumping it to see if it will start? Usually when the gauges do that it is a sign of low system voltage, whether it be the alt isnt working, a shorted battery or a bad connection at the battery

We replaced the battery and cleaned up some connections, but I notice the van is running hotter than normal now and the scent I have smelled with radiator and head gasket issues in the past is present. Could these issues be associated or is this a coincidence or something completely different?

Sounds like a coincidence, but definitly look at it or have it checked so as not to do any engine damage from overheating
