The A/C is making a sort of hiss from the center dash vent.
The compressor is working there is freon in the system but it blows hot air.

Is the evaporator leaking in the dash?

Did you ever find out what the problem was? My 2003 just started doing the exact same thing today.

It was low in freon because there was a leak in the condenser. I'm an expert in replacing the the condenser. I also replaced the seals at the compressor. I have great AC now.
