Hi

I was just advised that the catalytic converter needs to be replaced - cost $580.

Does anyone have any suggestions? e.g. Is there a product I could use to clean it out?

Does the car need a catalytic converter? I live in Canada.

Are they easy to take out if I don't need it?

Thank you so much.

Depends on the Federal law in Canada. In U.S. it is illegal to remove or modify emmission devices.

You can replace with a universal type convertor, which usually run under $100 for the part.

My advice, replace it with either factor unit or universal. The O2 sensors will probably turn on the check engine light all the time without the convertor installed, engine will run rich and mileage will suffer.
