Have a 2002 Bonneville and a 2002 Grand Prix GT. The MIL on the GP appears not to be working. The engine is running poorly but the check engine light does not come on and when I scan for codes, my code reader indicates that the MIL is not on and there are no error codes. Now when I disconnect the MAF sensor on the Bonneville and on the GP, the Bonneville will show the check engine light, but the GP does not. This would seem to indicate that the MIL on the GP is not working.

My question is, why isn't my MIL working and what might cause it to not work?

Other info of why I believe that the Service Engine Light should be on is: The car starts and idles good, but when I try to accelerate at a normal pace the car will seem to start missing. If I accelerate very slowly the car will eventually get to about 50 miles per hour.

One other thing, the abs and traction off lights have been coming on just about a week before the car started running bad.

Have you checked the fuel pump pressure? Also, have you checked the catalytic converter to see if it is plugged? As far as the ABS and trac control, the two work together. Chances are there is an ABS sensor that has come unplugged or the wiring is damaged. You need to scan for codes with that too. However, I don't know if your scanner can read other than engine codes.
