Hello,
I have a problem with my ABS/Anti-lock brakes. I purchased a scanner (non-name brand from wholesale tool freight store), but read no codes. Took it to a mechanic because of the moaning sound from my driver side. He found/replaced brakes, hub and bearings in the front of the car.
I thought everything was good, even the occasional ABS light didn't come on. Now, several months later, the sound is coming back with a roar, my ABS occasionally comes on, and I've shipped my OBDC II scanner to my new home, although I don't think I would get any codes.
My question is, the mechanic wants to charge $35 to hook up his scanner. Is there a significant difference between his professional scanner and my cheap $70 one that may produce the GM codes where mine failed? I do know when I turn off the TRAC on my car, the problem lessens.
