For the last 2 months while driving the engine will cut out then the tachometer goes to 0 and the traction control goes off. When you turn off the car everything goes back to normal. Now the car will turn over but not start after driving for a short distance. After about 20 min. it will start and drive ok. Yesterday it cut out while driving and died. But started again when I tried it. Problem seems to be getting worse.

The 'check engine soon' light came on once while I was driving after one of these episodes but didn't come back on when I turned the car off and restarted. The engine has always idled a little ruff but nothing I've ever complained about. I had my oil and air filter changed just prior to this problem. The only other thing weird about this car is the 'haunted' electric window on the front passenger side. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Without having the engine diagnostic done be hard to say. Go to Auto Zone see if they can find a code. Maybe a faulty crankshaft sensor they can go and not set code. let me know

My 97 3.8L Grand Prix had the same problem, It would randomly stall out when traveling below 1000 RPMs at stoplights and in parking lots. Then got progressively worse. I replaced the Throttle Position Sensor, Idol Air Control Valve and a Vacuum line from the throttle body and that fixed the problem good luck.
