have a service engine soon light come on, and when i went to have it scanned they said that my test port was dead! is there a fuse or something i need to check?

Yes the ALDL (assembly line diagnostic link) is a fused circuit.

Look at inside fuse box for ALDL or diagnostic fuse.

the test port is linked with the cigarette lighter fuse.
