Is coolant level full? If OK then probably faulty coolant level switch/sensor

It's the sensor. Been there done that. You'll have to drain the radiator down below the sensor level and then change it. You can possible clean it. Mine was gunked up with the orange coolant, which I went to green. Don't care what GM says, the orange is not good for your motor. Inside the sensor is a pin. You can clean it, if you don't want to buy a new one. New one is around $45. Good luck :)
