1996 Pontiac Grand Prix Alternator

1996 Pontiac Grand Prix 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive

We are having a problem getting the longer bolt out of the alternator to pull it out. Can you help?

Make certain you have disconnected/removed all of the following:


Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the serpentine drive belt, as outlined in of this repair guide.
Unfasten the rear bracket/heat shield nuts from the exhaust manifold.
Remove the rear bracket/heat shield bolts from the block, near the water pump.
Unfasten the rear bracket/heat shield retaining nuts at the alternator, then remove the bracket/heat shield.
Detach the electrical connections from the alternator, including the battery positive lead and the nuts from the alternator output (BAT) terminal.
Unfasten the front attaching bolts, then remove the alternator from the vehicle.
