You must disconnect battery when installing TPS.

The ECM stores a value (TPS voltage at closed throttle) and when installing new one, this value nust be cleared so ECM can "relearn" new value. Disconnecting battery will erase old value.

How long do I need to have the battery disconnected to restore the value when changing the throttle positioning sensor?

I would disconnect 2-3 minutes to reset the value.

TPS sends voltage to ECM.3 to 5.0v. The closed throttle voltage value must be reset since you can never install a new TPS in the same EXACT position, reading the same EXACT voltage as old one, (unless you are very good or lucky :) )
