1999 Ponitac Grand Am 70000 mi. I haven't had any trouble with the car besides the usual wear and tear. But just recently I have noticed that the front tires are "slipping" and I am losing traction when turning the wheel at low speeds. There also seems to be a grinding sound sometimes when I turn mostly to the left and the car seems to have lowered a bit. Also around 65-70 mph I get rattling and a bit of steering wheel shake. I asked friends and my dad they all said the possible problem may be the CV joints. I am no car guy so does that sound right or what? And if so whats a ballpark on that price?

Very well may be the axle. IF it is, you best change it soon, because those are the end of it's life signs. IF you look underneath you may be able to help verify it. Look for a torn boot and grease that has spun out of it. There are 2 axles, each with 2 joints that are covered with a boot.
