Recently my sons car would not start. The engine would crank over but would not fire. We used just a little starter fluid and it fired right up and ran as normal. My question is, What may have caused the engine to not start in the first place and is this a symptom of something more serious to come?

Welcome to the forum. Intermittents can be hard to track. When the problem occurs, I'd use a gage and check fuel pressure. Has the fuel filter ever been changed? Plus, an intermittent rpm signal will drive you crazy. Any applicable trouble codes? Some of the national brand autostores, used to check codes for free.
