2001 Pontiac Grand Am oil loss

I took my car in yesterday for an oil change( every 3000 miles) and they told me it was down a qt. What could be the problem and cost

Hi there,

If your car was well over due for a service there may be nothing to worry about, as engines will loose a bit of oil and old oil will break down and tend to burn off quicker, just check for any signs of external leaks on the engine and take not if it puffs a plume of bluish smoke on start up in the morning, check these first.
