My Grand Am is having problems when I try to accelerate it acts like its not getting fuel and when I press the gas pedal then all of a sudden it starts to go. When it's not having problems accelerating it feels a little jumpy when I drive. When on the highway and I press the gas pedal the car doesn't accelerate when pressed harder and then the RPM's shoot up to about 4000-5000 RPM's then when I let off the gas I can feel the car jerk a little like it's trying to get into gear. Eventually with a lot of coaxing the car will gain speed to keep pace with traffic.

Check fuel pressure with a mechanical gauge. Check fuel pressure regulator for gasoline in vacuum line, if present then the FP regulator will have to be replaced.

Are you getting any error codes?

The Service Engine Soon came on last night while driving on the highway. This is the first time it has come on.
