Evap emission control syster

Engine Mechanical problem
2000 Pontiac Grand Am 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I read the codes from my car and it read: evaporative emission control system vent control circuit malfunction and also something about pressure within the same system. My car has recently started dying at idle, when I first step on the accelerator, and if I don't keep constant pressure on the gas pedal. I like to know where to start!

make sure the gas cap is tight, it should click 3 times as that will set it off as well as the gasket aroud the cap. But you could have a bad solenoid on the evap cannister letting it leak vacuum or a line fell off. check for that stuff. also take tchoke cleaner and clean your throttle plate, there's a pic on the tune up part under repair.
