Engine Mechanical problem
2000 Pontiac Grand Am 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My 2000 Grand Am just broke down on me. It has been stuttering the past week but nothing serious. There has been no service engine light on. It stutters when I give it gas but not everytime. On my way to work I was going up a hill and it was getting worse and when I gave it more gas it wasn't going faster.

Yesterday I thought it was an air problem so I replaced the air filter (much needed), but it didn't help because it just broke down on me. :( I got an oil change a few weeks ago and they said I needed a new fuel filter. Could it be that my fuel filter is clogged or my fuel line is clogged? I haven't noticed any differences with my gas.

Another thing, after my car stalled out on me I was able to restart it but it took some time but it did but wasn't running good at all. Once I put it into gear and gave it gas it stalled right out on me. Leads me to believe that it is a gas thing.

Lack of acceleration, chugging, hesitating, jerking, bogging, misfiring etc. Could be caused by one of the following below

Oxygen sensor.
Catalytic converter.
Fuel injectors dirty/sticking.
Mass airflow sensor/Airflow meter.
Throttle position sensor.
Crankshaft position sensor
Knock sensor
Manifold absolute pressure sensor.
EGR Valve
Fuel pressure regulator leaking or defective fuel pump.
False air leakage.
Fuel contamination.
Foul/defective spark plugs.
Open spark plug wires.
Ignition coil/Coil packs defective.
Incorrect ignition timing.
Cap and rotor.

Note:If it doesn't apply disregard it
