Brake and abs light on

Brakes problem
1999 Pontiac Grand Am 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 125625 miles

I just purchased a 99 grand am gt from a private party, and immediately noticed that as I drove the car, the BRAKE and (ABS) light stay on. I tested the brakes several times, and they seem to stop the car well. I'm not too car smart, so I was just wondering if this could be a sensor on one of the wheels or the ABS unit itself? Any advice?

As a precaution make sure the brake fluid reservior is full.

You'll need to check the codes in the computer to start diagnosis. IT may be one of those you mentioned as the source.

The mechanical brakes are independent of the ABS system. I strongly recommend fixing it.

When you get the codes, you can post them and we can look further into this.
