Engine Cooling problem
1998 Pontiac Grand Am 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My friends car over heated the other day, the coolant exploded everywhere. I couldnt find anything wrong with it, so I thought it had to be the temperature sensor. I have no idea where it is located, or if something else could cause it to over heat. They told me the temp was about 260 when it happened and it took awhile for this to happen.

THe temp sensor won't cause it to overheat. When you say it exploded, do you mean a radiator hose blew? As far as the overheating, it could be a thermostat, plugged radiator, bad cooling fan motor... The cheapest thing to try is the thermostat. Most likely it is bad. As far as the sensor, of the gauge in the car was reading 260 F, then the temp sensor was working.

Let me know if you have other questions.
