1997 Pontiac Grand Am Engine stalls when in park or neutral

1997 Pontiac Grand Am 6 cyl Automatic

My car seems to drive fine until I put it in park or neutral, then it revs up like i'm giving it gas or something then just stops. Any ideas whats going on, or how much these things will cost?
