I have a service code of G157. The car will start, but shuts off immediately. We left key on for 10 minutes as suggested to reset the computer and tried to crank again. Same results with new code G157. Some one said something about needing a serial data circuit diagram. Please help.

Do you have a security light on?

There is no G code class on OBDII cars. "P" powertrain, "B" body, "C" chassis and "U" communications are the OBDII codes.

A 1996 GA is an OBDII car.

Reset procedure for security light:

GM PASS LOCK RELEARN- Ignition to "run" position, try to start and let key return to "run" position
Approx ten minutes security light will go off
Turn key "off" and wait 5 seconds
Repeat 2 more times for a total of 3 relearns.
Turn key off, then start it
