I have a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am, with about 220,000 miles on it. Recently it has started missing while driving usually around 1,500 to 2,500. The check engine light has stayed on, flashing every once in a while, with the door locks locking and unlocking randomly. It also seems as though sometimes while driving it does not want to change gears, for example while driving at 35mph the rpm is at 3,000. I am pretty good with working on it, but cannot seem to figure this one out. I even took it to a mechanic, which produced the same results both times. I have changed all vac lines, spark plugs, and spark plug wires. I need help, no one can seem to figure this one out. Your help is greatly appreciated.

The check engine light being On means the computer has stored a trouble code/s and needs to be pulled to identify the trouble circuit/components involved and comeback with it-

I got the car checked and all indications point to random cylinder misfire, it also reads that an EVAP failure is present.

P0300 Random Misfire

Random Misfire code usually indicates a vacuum leak or bad fuel

Misfires can be caused by worn or fouled spark plugs, a weak spark (weak coil, bad spark plug wire), loss of compression, vacuum leaks, anything that causes an unusually lean fuel mixture (lean misfire), an EGR valve that is stuck open, dirty fuel injectors, low fuel pressure, or even bad fuel.

Thanks you eliminated several things I thought it was. I guess my next option is going to be the coils. If that does not work I will just take it to the delearship for help.
