IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER REPLACEMENT

1996 Pontiac Grand Am

Electrical problem
1996 Pontiac Grand Am 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 156, 00 miles

I need to know the steps required to replace the lock cylinder. The key has been giving me trouble since I purchased the car in 02, now it quit completely. Removed the electrical switch from the back of the cylinder and car will start with screw driver, but stalls, anti theft device kicks in, need to replace cylinder, but not sure where to start. Thanks for any info

Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove air bag module/horn pad. Disconnect air bag module and horn connectors. Remove retainer and nut from steering shaft. 2. Mark steering wheel hub in relation to steering shaft for installation. Using Steering Wheel Puller (J 1859-03 or BT-61-9), remove steering wheel. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten steering wheel nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . CAUTION: DO NOT strike steering shaft with hammer to remove steering wheel. Just remove the negative(-) battery cable, and wait 2-3 minutes.
