1996 Pontiac Grand Am 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Where can I find a diagram on how to change and alternator on a 1996 Grand Am SE with a quad 4 motor? Ive looked everywhere and cant seem to find one.

Hello

Below is the only information the manual provides. Sometimes the manufactures consider this basic automotive knowledge therefore don't provide pictures etc unless there is something totally out of the ordinary for your vehicle.

There doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary for your vehicle. You can check the belt tensioner out from Auto Zone using their tool check out program. Inspect your belt and if it has excessive cracks, missing section, then you should replace it also.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove drive belt. Remove nut retaining positive battery cable to generator BAT terminal. Disconnect generator electrical connector. Remove mounting bolts, nuts, braces and brackets. Remove other components as necessary. Remove generator. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Also, it looks like you may have some recalls on your vehicle. The dealer may fix these for free. Please contact the dealer service department, give them the VIN number of your car and have them check on these to see if they apply to you.
