The car starts up fine. We can drive it for about 20-30 minutes before it just shuts off when we come to a stop. We can get it started up again and put it into reverse, however when put into drive it shuts off again. We wait about 20 minutes and the car will start right back up.

Two possible problems, first the ignition module, which you can remove and have tested.

Second the TCC solenoid (torque convertor clutch) may be sticking.

Ignition modules vary widely in price, $60-300. GM modules are usually cheaper in price.

The TCC solenoid can be replaced with trans in car, so under $300.
