Noises problem
1995 Pontiac Grand Am 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 140k miles
My sons grand am, which he bought a couple of months ago, developed a knocking noise coming from the right side of the engine compartment. It starts and idles just fine, the knocking gets louder when you rev the engine. My husband performed a compression test on all the cylinders, which read in the normal range across all cylinders. He was told to replace the harmonic balancer, even though this part appeared to be operating normally, ie no wobble. He then replaced the crankshaft sensor.....the knock was still there. Are there any other sensors which might be causing a knock......before digging into the engine itself?
