Engine Mechanical problem
1995 Pontiac Grand Am 4 cyl Manual 190000 miles

I have a 95 Grand am gt with a quad 4 engine. I believe the head gasket is bad there is water in the oil and it has a milky appearance to it. It is making a ticking noise while idleing and has a small oil leak from the oil filter. I have been told by several people that it sounds like a head gasket. I have also been told that you have to remove the engine mount and water pump and more to change it out, is there an eaiser way to do it and is there anything to keep in mind while trying to change the head gasket and could it be something other than a head gasket? Any help or hints will be greatly appreciated.

Start by performing a compression test, this will tell you if the headgasket is bad. Disable fuel and ignition and make sure the throttle plate is wide open when doing a compression test.

If coolant is in the oil, DO NOT DRIVE or start the engine. You take a real risk of spinning a main bearing.
