I have a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am 2.3 quad 4 engine. My acceleration was cutting out occasionally not often at all and now my acceleration is horrible. When I turn on the car it slightly shakes as if the engine is overworking and my car is extremely slow to accelerate. It has almost no power. A friend said it might be my fuel pump but my car has never died out on me it jus has bad acceleration. Could it be the fuel filter? I also heard it could be a fuel pressure system?

When was the last time it had a tune-up? You know spark plugs and filters. Are there any trouble-codes? Can you rule out fuel or ignition?

I honestly wouldn't know when the last tune up was. I bought the car used and I have had it for about a month and I have never given it a tune up. That was my next guess I just want to have a good idea of what it is because I definitely don't want to spend money on unnecessary labor.

I hear you about the money, I'm the same way. A tune-up may not even fix it, I just consider it preventive maintenance. It sounds like a misfire, but, I can't tell if it is spark--fuel or what?

I figure I'll get the tune up soon either way because I'm sure my car needs it regardless. As for the problem, I'm going to try changing the fuel filter and if it still has problems it's most likely my fuel injector pressure.
