.Loosen the fuel filler cap to relieve fuel tank vapor pressure.
.For vehicles through 1990, remove the fuel pump fuse from the fuse panel.
.For 1991 vehicles, raise and safely support the vehicle, then detach the fuel pump electrical connector. Carefully lower the vehicle.
.Start the engine and run until the engine stalls. Engage the starter an additional 3 seconds to assure the fuel pressure is completely relieved.
.For vehicles through 1990, reinstall the fuel pump fuse.
.For 1991 vehicles, raise and safely support the vehicle, attach the fuel pump electrical connector, then carefully lower the vehicle.
.Disconnect the negative battery cable to avoid possible fuel discharge if an accidental attempt is made to start the engine. To be safe, cover the terminal and/or cable to prevent sparks from occurring if the terminal and/or cable were to become grounded.
.When your finished the fuel system work, don't forget to tighten the fuel filler cap.
