My car is a 1985 Pontiac Firebird,5.0 liter v8,about 350 000 kms,Automatic tranny,Lately with my car I have been noticing the motor has been cutting out, also whenever I am in overdrive (or in any other gear, but more noticeable with higher speeds) the car is tugging and giving some kinda yanks, its not the tranny, cause I can hear the engine cutting out....so I thought it was the carb, got that rebuilt, didn't help....then I thought maybe the fire was "jumping" so I changed my plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap,and rotor, the only things I didn't change was the distributor itself and the coil, thinking it probably wouldn't be them...my question is what do you think the problem could be causing this cutting out and tugging :?

When I worked for a local Pontiac dealership in the early 80's, we had a bulletin on the catalytic converter balls needed to be changed. We stuffed a rag in the tailpipe and increased the rpm's, and watched for a glowing converter. After changing the balls, all power came back. We done a lot at the dealer long ago, but try it? Hope you find the answer.
