My 1990 Pontiac Firebird 3.1L has always run well, until quite recently. I took the vehicle to have the oil changed and the shop also rotated my tires (though I didn't ask and had it done only 200 miles previously). Driving it home, it started intermittent having issues with idling.

I just replaced the fuel pump earlier today. I'm glad I went in there because the float was crusty, the fuel level sensor had serious carbon deposits, the strainer was split open, the rubber sleeve was flaking, and the gasket was trashed.

While I'm getting much better throttle response, I still only get the starter to prime about 50% of the time when playing with the key. Any ideas?

change the fuel filter and then check your fuel pressure. you may have another problem like regulator or similar. Also when you changed th pump the fine wires inside the tank that connect tot he pump may have broken or frayed.
